MEET LAURA

With a degree in Visual Design from the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley, Laura Tarrish began her career as a graphic designer. While working in Boston, she developed an illustration style based on her longtime passion for the medium of collage. Laura spent many years in San Francisco, Portland and London as an editorial illustrator. The subject matter was every bit as eclectic as her client list, creating illustrations for clients such as The Washington PostThe Boston Globe, United Airlines’ Hemispheres Magazine, The US Department of Energy, and Chronicle Books, among others. Laura launched Bridgetown Papers as a vehicle to do paper products and to create work for individuals. This new site represents a shift in Laura’s style for her paper goods…more graphic, less layered.

Although she spent longer periods of time in other cities, it was the two years in London that left Laura a hopeless Anglophile. She maintains an affinity for all things British. Laura is a collector of paper ephemera, vintage travel guides, postcards and maps, as well as miniature chairs (see the Instagram account devoted to the collection: @laurachairish.) Laura has written for Design Observer, Felt & Wire, and Uppercase Magazine, enjoying the opportunity to feature artists and craftspeople who inspire her

Laura currently lives in Portland, Oregon—home to artisan everything (so why not greeting cards?). Discuss custom services with the designer via email or phone. And be sure to follow Bridgetown Papers on the new Instagram account!
